Changing your MAC address
Introduction
SileNceR and myself were browsing around some forums of late and got caught-up
in a long-winded debate about changing the MAC address of a NIC. We have done
a little bit of testing and experimentation with the ideas and have decided
to post some results here for you.
We started by just looking at our NIC properties...thats where we stopped...
Game over, its that easy, I'd insert expletives here but they're not necessary
:)
We used Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP, RH
Linux 6.2 and 7.1 as well as FreeBSD 4.3 in combination with two RealTek 8139c
based NICs, a Realtek 8139b based NIC, an Intel 21143 (Tulip) based NIC, an
Intel PRO/100+ NIC, and a RealTek 8029 NIC.
You have probably looked at this exact setting in your advanced properties
for your Network Adaptor, you may indeed have even clicked on it (in your Diablo
2 mood of clickfest, or whatever your reason). However, most people haven't
bothered to note this setting is available or maybe they just didn't know what
it does.
